Speakers
Our guest speakers for the evening were:
Simon La Fosse, a Director of Harvey Nash Plc, the well-known recruitment
and headhunting company.
Simon’s presentation focused on characteristics of good senior IT
people, seen from the perspective of business leaders. In addressing this topic,
Simon drew on material from Harvey Nash’s own annual survey of CIOs
and IT Directors, and also on his extensive experience in placing people into
senior IT roles.
Delegates should have understood from this session both how to
focus their time to best advantage when in a very senior IT position, and how
to
avoid regular pitfalls when being interviewed for such roles.

Karen Price, CEO of e-skills UK.
e-skills UK is a not-for profit membership organisation with members drawn
from the IT and Telecoms industries, employers of IT professionals across sectors
and industries, Contact Centres, Higher and Further education, trade and professional
organisations, and government agencies. Its role is to bring together employers,
educators and government and unite them on a common employer-led agenda for
action on skills, to ensure that the skills employers need are the skills employers
get.
In October of last year, e-skills UK published the results of an extensive
survey (carried out by Gartner Group) on the evolving shape of IT employment
in the UK, incorporating a view of future possible scenarios for UK industry.
Based on this, e-skills UK formulated a draft Sector Skills Agreement, and
issued this as a consultation document to stakeholders and interested parties.
The consultation is now largely complete, and the results – with proposals – will
shortly be presented to Government.
Karen’s presentation was an early and unique opportunity for
Elite members to see the results of this important work prior to formal publication.
