eBCS ELITE - The British Computer Society

Chair's message

David Tidey Elite held a very successful event with the theme of 'turning businesses around' recently. We were treated to two extremely interesting speakers; Paul Coby, CIO of British Airways and Vanessa Leeson, managing directory of Parcelforce Worldwide. A common theme of the presentations was the need for IT to work hand in glove with the business in order to drive change and value.

Our next event is an all day event on the 10 May at Bletchley Park. Our host will be Tony Sale, programme director for the rebuild of Colossus. I look forward to seeing you there.

Project management: Between a rock and a hard place
There's no point in flogging a dead horse and continuing with a project that's not going to deliver what it set out to do. Elizabeth Harrin, author of the new BCS book, Project Management in the Real World, gives some interesting project management insight.

Compliance: Compliance complexity and security
In the past, discussions about information security have often been dominated by technology and the need to implement technical solutions to prevent breaches and risks to the organisation. But the European information security market is now increasingly taking a different approach towards this, says Roy Harari, managing director of Comsec Consulting.

Security: Me, myself and iPod
Dennis Szerszen, SVP at SecureWave, looks at managing security with the new breed of IT-savvy workers.

Use your influence
This is your chance to influence the leading IT training companies to provide services that really match your needs. IT Skills Research, in partnership with IT Training magazine, is carrying out a survey on behalf of its members - the UK's leading IT training companies. Its findings will enable these companies to refine their products, services and communications so that they reflect the way training is managed in customer organisations. If you are involved in buying IT training, please help by completing this online survey. A copy of the Executive Summary of the survey's findings is available to everyone who takes part, and all entries will be entered into a draw to win a case of wine. If you prefer to respond anonymously, your input would still be welcome.
